In this section, Dr. Fox introduces us to Kelly's data, typical of that found in any classroom, and walks participants through the first process they will learn during the Institute.
First, he uses a hands-on activity and asks participants to organize the data so that patterns "jump off the page."
Second, he teaches the group how to write descriptive statements about the organized data.
Third, he has the group consider what they have learned from the data and think about implications for instruction.
Fourth, he introduces the concept of accounting for student performance and asks the group to consider what the teacher's next steps should be.
Fifth, he introduces the concept of "Re-do" "Review" and "Re-Teach" in the context of grouping students based on their needs, rather than on their scores.
Last, he discusses the importance of allowing teachers to organize data in ways they find comfortable and the importance of teacher ownership of the data analysis process.
