Using Classroom Data
Using Data for Instructional Decision Making:
Quantitative Data

In this section, Dr. Fox discusses the importance of ensuring that all students reach episodic, essential grade level standards before they move on to the next grade level. An episodic standard is one that every student needs to attain at that grade level because it will not be taught in the next, or any subsequent, year.

Dr. Fox introduces a system of data analysis, designed to help principals help teachers ensure that all students master these episodic standards:

  • Questions for the Principal: Descriptive Data -- Dr. Fox introduces the most scaffolded system of data analysis covered in this institute.

  • Questions for the Principal: "Thoughts" About Data -- Dr. Fox asks the group to draw some inferences from Megan's data.

  • Questions for the Principal: "Stepping Back" From Data -- Dr. Fox discusses ways to make sense of the data, and use it for instructional decision making.
